2000 Guineas Live on ITV Racing: All Runners and Riders Confirmed
City Of Troy is the favourite for this first Classic of 2024
City Of Troy will compete against ten challengers in Saturday's Qipco 2,000 Guineas (3.35) at Newmarket after trainer Aidan O'Brien decided to withdraw his three other entries.
Last season's champion juvenile, City Of Troy, has been the favourite for this first Classic of the season following commanding victories in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at the Rowley Mile.
With O'Brien's removal of Henry Longfellow, River Tiber, and Diego Velazquez at the final declaration stage, City Of Troy will be the only entrant representing the Ballydoyle and Coolmore partnership, aiming for their first victory in this race since Magna Grecia won in 2019.
The City Of Troy seeks to be the first favourite to win the race since Churchill, another Ballydoyle and Coolmore horse, in 2017—the same year jockey Ryan Moore last won this race.
This year's competition will have the smallest lineup since 2017, featuring only ten horses.
City of Troy's competitors include the Richard Hannon-trained Rosallion, last seen winning the Group 1 Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp in October, and Haatem, who clinched last month's Craven Stakes impressively.
Godolphin's Notable Speech, dual Southwell winner Night Raider, and the Group 2 Royal Lodge victor Ghostwriter are all undefeated and bring additional excitement to the race.
Representing last year's victorious owners, Juddmonte, Ralph Beckett will saddle Task Force. The field is rounded out by Alyanaabi, Iberian, Inisherin, and Ten Bob Tony, creating a highly competitive lineup.
